Attending & Presenting at Conferences - Tuesday 30 October

Our next Historical Research Forum will take place on Tuesday 30th October at 5.30pm (refreshments from 5pm). As ever, this will be followed by a visit to a local pub, or the SCR bar in the Queens' Building. The room is Arts II 3.16.

Attending and Presenting at Conferences

This Historical Research Forum will focus on all you need to know about attending and presenting at conferences. In our familiar question-and-answer format we will consider just why it is so important to attend these events, the difference between ‘seminars’, ‘conferences’ and ‘colloquiums’, and the range of these events available to you as a Postgraduate Student at the University of London. We will also share our experiences of preparing for and presenting at conferences around the country, and internationally. A few of the questions that will be covered are:
  • When is it best to start attending conferences?
  • When is best to start presenting at conferences?
  • How many papers am I expected to give during my time as a Postgraduate Researcher?
  • How do I write an engaging abstract when applying to present a paper?
  • What should I expect from the Question and Answer section after I have presented a paper at an event [here we will hand out some survival techniques to cope with those really awkward and difficult questions]
By the end of this event you should feel prepared enough to be able to start thinking about when and where you will present you first paper, and what it could be on.

This event is open to EVERYBODY – it is an opportunity for STAFF and PGRs of all years to meet and share their experiences.

LOCATION: Arts 2 3:16
